During his lecture, Dr. Cyril David Mazer highlighted the significant adverse outcomes linked to anemia and Red Blood Cell (RBC) transfusions in cardiac surgery, shedding light on a crucial aspect of patient care. Supporting studies also say that RBC units transfusion was associated with an increased risk of postoperative cardiac complications, such as severe infection, renal failure, neurological complications, global morbidity, and mortality, both in hospital and up to 30 days after cardiac surgery.
